The Outreach Services of the North Country Library System provide library materials which are sent directly by mail, free of charge, to residents within the System area who need specialized materials, or who are unable to visit their local public library.

Services to special targeted groups are provided directly by NCLS and/or the services of the local public libraries. NCLS works in partnership with the member libraries to help everyone enjoy the benefits of reading.

Library materials available for loan to patrons with special needs include: large print
books, books on audiocassette and on CD, DVDs, and other specialized materials.

Persons who are eligible for this service should meet one or more of the following requirements:

  • elderly (62 and over)
  • blind or visually impaired
  • deaf or hearing impaired
  • institutionalized
  • physically disabled
  • learning disabled
  • geographically isolated

Patrons can request materials through NCLS:

  • by mail or dropped off in-person to: NCLS Service Center at 22072 County Route 190, PO BOX 99, Watertown, NY 13601
  • 8:00 am to 4:30 pm M-F
  • by telephone at 315-782-5540, ext. 235
  • by email at Outreach
  • by the NCLS delivery to a member library in the System

Frequently Asked Questions

How can I select materials to read or listen to?

Lists of fiction and non-fiction materials are mailed directly to patrons. Fill out and mail in a “Reading Profile” describing your interests in the appropriate format for your needs. Forms can be obtained from the NCLS Outreach Department.
    
How do I request these materials?

Fill out and mail in an Outreach Request Form listing your selections. Please indicate on the form if you would accept a substitute if the title you are requesting is not available.
 
Does this service cost me anything?

No. There is no charge at all for this service. No postage costs, receiving or returning materials.
